LAND: Resource, Right, Refuge

The City of Las Vegas Museum and the Friends of the Museum present
a two-day event focusing on historical perspectives of land use as well
as present-day options for maintaining and managing the finite resource
of land which sustains us. It will take place at Vital Arts Gallery,
423 Grand Avenue. Free and open to the public.
Information: City Museum, 454-1401, ext. 283.

May 19th -- 1:30 PM - 4:00 PM
LAND: Resource, Right, Refuge

Roberto Mondragon will host a discussion on land use in the region.
Other panel members are former state historian Robert Torrez
and Miguel Santistevan, New Mexico Acequia Association
youth project director. Mr. Torrez will talk on
Voices from the Past: The Land and Its People.
Miguel Santistevan will speak about his experience working
with Taos-area young people on land-based activities.
Discussion is encouraged.

May 20th -- 1:30 PM - 4:00 PM
LAND: Resource, Right, Refuge

A day of fun for families and children.
Local performers will create a mountain man, curandera and
rancher whose livelihoods depend on a close relationship with
the environment. Following the performances, children’s activities
include seed planting and an interactive “water wagon” from the local
Future Farmers of America where participants see the effects of water
on the land by building land formations and running water over them.
Diana Sherman of the NMHU anthropology department will guide
children in creating pictographs based on a taking on a role as a
Native American of 800 years ago.
